Had a great day yesterday in Swansea with Alistair. We went to see Bob Mortimer who lives nearby and is building a very upmarket Fury – lightweight chassis, rose jointed, Hayabusa etc. but very nice to see and pore over. The black Compomotive wheels supplied by Martin are gorgeous but Bob says when he tried the steering they fouled his lightweight low bonnet body badly. I need to find out what size will be best for mine. Many similar features on Bob’s car to mine but also many different ones! Then back to Alistair’s where we stripped the flywheel, inlet manifold, couple of gaskets and cam cover off his old MX5 engine. I must pay him for them and will research the values. He let me drive his car to Bob’s house and it certainly goes! Can’t wait to see what happens in mine which will be 400kgs lighter!
Today I attacked the various track rod ends and got them all screwed home, including one where I had to repair the thread. Then I sawed and stripped the extraneous stuff off the Sierra steering column and got a couple of brackets fitted to the top of the pedal box to secure the column close to the UJ. Got a few bits at XL, B&Q and Halfords and found that the blue stuff on some bolts off scrapyard bits is actually a kind of Loctite. Need to get some sometime!
