13th February

Magic! Clutch arrived but most wonderfully a parcel from KCW including the wishbone (albeit thread not repaired) , track rod end and two gleaming spanking new knuckle inserts – a totally different quality to the ones Martin has sent before! They just dropped into the uprights. I can get the front assembled now, and rolling so that we can get it onto the trailer and down to Liphook for the engine mounts. Also very interesting e-mail from Bob Mortimer in Swansea who is building a Fury Hayabusa.

Neville says the prop I bought via the 247 Spares site arrived at his house and I’ve found a pretty good source for the new mounts and fixings from an advert in Total Kit Car who did a feature on MX5’s in the last issue.
Had an hour before dark when the weather was fine so I fitted the new inserts into the uprights, the knuckles, track rod ends etc and then tried a brake disc and calliper in situ. It all seems OK except I need to do some research on how the track rod ends all seat, plus a couple of threads seem tight. But it’s good to have front and back hubs in place so that when Neville collects the car we can use 4 wheels! Also message from Neville that he needs a new water pump pulley for the engine – it got damaged in the crash.

Front hubs and one brake disc in place!
