30th July
After an hour and a half fixing the heater pull cable on Emma’s Mini (which I broke anyway 3 months ago so my job – very very fiddly) got to the car about 4.00pm. After web search am putting panel inside tub. Measured and marked the outer n/s front panel and cut out the two recesses with tin snips, pliers to bend the tab back then hacksaw. Clamped it relative to rear panel, under lapping rear panel leading edge as on inner side and drilled. Then having seen how Rob Collingridge has cut out his seat belt anchor points decided to try to drill holes in my inner, rather than chop them out crudely like my outer rear panel – see photo below.

When you’ve got hole cutters, most people use them but I forgot about them and was happily bodging. When I remembered it was too late and there was nothing for the centre shaft to bite on. Anyway I also remembered my good round file and that sorted the holes right away. Very pleased with Workmate bench. Best £25 quid’s worth. So that’s the passenger side cockpit metalwork done, apart from the floor and tidying the sharp edges, then getting them powder coated. 12.5 hours work (and half an hour each time to tidy up the drive, brush up the metal cuttings etc.) How do the other builders apparently go so fast?
