15th March
Got back from Lyon late to find the water pump, cam belt and inlet manifold gasket had arrived.
Goofed off early from work to deliver parts to Neville and get a look at what he has done. It’s way over what I could have done! He’s taken off the passenger footwell bulkhead and tapered the well and floor by about 2 inches to let the gearbox in. On the drivers side, the hydraulic clutch release lever meant he had to do something similar but less drastic and move the diagonal strengthening bar 2” to the outside. Now the engine sits pretty well although it looks tall for the space - but that’s before the body is on. He was busy welding up the mounting plates. I could never have done this! He’s also unhappy with the way the steering column sits (I can honestly say that was my first thought too) so he needs to redo that. I’ll need new plugs, plug leads as well as other stuff. At least the exhaust manifold fits easily works so that’s saved a bit more. The Mini’s a write off which is a pain.
