21st October

Almost no progress for a month. But during that time I got from Martin a pair of uprights. But when I tried to fit the modified knuckle seats for the front suspension links the ones he had given me on collection were no good. The paint layer was far too thick so he sent replacements which fit. On the 16th September I went to the Donington kit car show and met the Premier Wiring people, and ordered and paid for a loom. At least I think I did – no sign of it yet. I also met Tim Hoverd who has a bike engined race Fury and whose website has been useful during the build. He and others said a bike engine was essential for fun but I’m set now. He was astonished that I’m doing it in the garden, and that I’m riveting manually!
Nothing really from Martin on the parts. I think he’s swamped and may have taken on too much. He’s either preparing to go to a track to support a race meet or he’s just got back and is “very busy”. Now he tells me that he wrote off his car when he fell asleep at the wheel on the way to Brands Hatch last weekend. I’ve pushed a bit and said I’m stuck so he’s promised to get the back axle, rack, front springs, ready next week. I’ll go and get them when he emails me. It would have been far better to order the whole shebang at once and been sure of getting all the bits.Today I de-rusted and painted the hubs and uprights with Hammerite, bought a new tarpaulin to stop the thing filling with water, and went to the spares shop for some brake parts. No UNF threaded parts in stock and he says the brake reservoir is too expensive! I need to phone someone. I’ll collect the UNF parts next week.
