Changing the manky old cam cover for my shiny one I was able to look at the cams which seem perfect. Leaving the engine at the yard seems to have allowed leaves and gunk into the deeply recessed spark plug holes but the plugs were in and it just needed some care to clean them out.
Then I started trying to make out which part of the loom that is left I need and which wire goes where. This is a bit of a mission because I'm only good at household plugs, and not all the colours in the manual seem to match my wires. Then some connectors have no female or male to match, and of course I don't have half the ancillaries to worry about. There is a PCM on ebay for £9.99 which is tempting - can I risk it? It's that or several hundred for a new ECU. I might as well try it I suppose and at least bits of it are making sense.
