Over the last couple of sessions I've been working on the wiring. The first step was to re-run the MX5 engine loom through the new hole next to the driver and across the chassis rail parallel with the Premier Sierra loom. I then fed the Premier fuse boxes out through the hole you can see in the centre of this photo, made originally for the MX5 loom, on the nearside of the dash and screwed them to the firewall. I also drilled and secured the 4 relay holders for the Premier loom next to it, feeding the wires through grommets which are just to the left of the fuses.

Next the Sierra switches on the steering column were removed and the series identified (B90) so that the Premier wires could be correctly linked to them. I had simply assumed that the colours of the wires would join up and while that was often the case, there were plenty of subtle variations! Each terminal on the Sierra switch has a minute number or letter next to it moulded faintly into the switch base and you see them (if you have heard about their existence) when you pull out the connector. Without Nev's hints who knows what would have happened when power went to them? But once identified it was pretty straightforward.

Meanwhile Nev took charge of tracing the main engine loom to the Sierra connections. All the analysis and tracing I had done so laboriously a few months ago paid off because I at least knew what went where, and with Justin's diagram and the MX5 Haynes manual we did well. It also was pleasant to find that Mazda and Ford used similar colours for the ignition switch wires. So by the time we went home we were well ahead and I drilled a hole in the tunnel top under the heater so that we passed the rear loom through that, protected by a grommet, ready to secure it alongside the fuel pipes.
